What's the difference between a Motel and a Hotel?

"Hotel," according to Merriam-Webster, originated in the year 1765 and comes from a French word for an establishment that provides lodging, meals and other services. "Motel" came along much later, in 1925, according to Merriam-Webster. It blends the words "motor" and "hotel" and is meant to describe an establishment that provides some, but not necessarily all of the services associated with a hotel.

  • A Motel is more of a limited-service Hotel and doesn't have a bar or restaurant although most have a breakfast room.
  • Many of the rooms are located on the ground floor and be accessed easily from parking outside the room.
  • Motels employ a comparatively small number of employees, typically receptionists and housekeepers.
  • We are registered as four-star accommodation with Tourism Northern Ireland and The AA.

How did a Motel end up in Northern Ireland?

The McCartney Family toured extensively through the USA in the 70s and 80s were they saw how the Motels and Howard Johnston type accommodations offered extremely good value for money and service. After years owning the Lough Erne Hotel and Killyhevlin Hotel Raymond McCartney decided to open a Motel once he found the perfect location - on the junction of the Dublin and Tempo Roads in Enniskillen.

What services are included?

The rooms onsite at the Belmore Court & Motel are fully serviced and cleaned every day or upon request. All towels and linen are included as well as electricity, heating and water. All guests have access to the FREE hi-speed Wifi. Breakfast is included in some rates and available to add in other rates.

What is the difference in room types?

The original 1950’s Motel building contains 30 Standard Rooms with ensuites that have been constantly updated to provide great value accommodation mostly with mini-kitchens (4 have tea & coffee making facilities). There are Double, Twin and Family Rooms.

The newer Belmore Court building consists of 25 Superior Rooms and 5 Executives with ensuites. These are finished to a hotel standard and offer fantastic luxury at an affordable price.

What are the different types of accommodations offered?

The Standard Rooms are perfect for those on a budget or looking to stay longer in the area. Most have their own front door so that you can come and go as you please. They are well-appointed with Respa Beds in the rooms along with 32in TVs. The Standard family rooms come in 4 different setups:

1.    One large room with a double bed and two single beds

2.    Two separate rooms – one room with a double and the other with two single beds.

3.    Two separate rooms – each room with a double bed.

4.    Two separate rooms – each room with two singles beds.

The facilities available in most of the Standard Rooms include kitchen facilities, comprising of a fridge, microwave, hob and oven. All cutlery and crockery, as well as pots and pans, are included. Tea and coffee facilities are included in each room. There are four Standard Double rooms that only have Tea Making Facilities (No mini kitchen). There are also a number of accessible options.

 

The Superior Rooms feature a luxurious ensuite with bath or shower (standard or walk-in), 43" multi-channel SMART TV, docking station clock radio, tea & coffee making facilities, direct dial-in & out telephone, ironing centre, hairdryer, and Free Wi-Fi. There is a choice of Twin, Double, Triple (Double & Single) and Quad (Double & 2 Singles) options. There are adjoining options in most Superior Rooms types as well as accessible options.

Our Executive Rooms offer our highest level of luxury with larger rooms with finer furnishings including all the facilities for the Superior Rooms, In additional 50in multi-channel SMART TV. Nespresso Coffee machine and double sofa/sofabed. Some have balconies and one even has a TV in the Bath.

How is housekeeping and linen change arranged?

Your room will be fully cleaned & sanitised prior to your move in and will be cleaned on a regular basis or upon request.

Our award-winning housekeeping team has won the Northern Ireland Hotel and Guesthouse Housekeeping Team of the Year for the last 3 years - Five times in total.

How do I enquire/book?

Although we feature on booking.com, hotels.com and other Online Travel Agents, the best rates and availability can be always be found by booking direct at www.motel.co.uk, by phone +44 (0) 28 6632 6633 or WhatsApp.

If, by chance, you find a cheaper rate anywhere for our rooms, please contact us directly and we'll match the rate.

When will I receive confirmation?

Direct Online bookings at www.motel.co.uk will receive confirmation within minutes. By Telephone, once our Reservations team have confirmed that the accommodation is available, the team will arrange the reservation and send the confirmation across to you.

Confirmation will contain all of the details you will need for your stay – check-in and out times and instructions, the property address, key contact numbers, cancellation policy and payment/deposit details.

If you booked through an Online Travel Agent they will look after your booking but we advise guests to book direct.

Can I choose a specific Room?

You may choose a type of room type when speaking with our reservations team by telephone. Ground Floor, Lift Access, Adjoining and Accessible Rooms can all be requested. Online bookings may request room preference at the time of the booking but this will need to be confirmed by our reservations team.

Can I get an extra bed in the room?

Maximum occupancy restrictions may apply for various room types and an additional bed in the room is not available. Cots are available.

Can I get a cot for a baby?

You may indeed get a travel cot, however, this will be subject to availability and we ask that you bring your own bedding for the cot.

Is it possible to view a Room before I book?

In many cases yes. Please contact our Reservations team to arrange a viewing or view our Virtual Reality page to see more. More information is available on our Rooms page of the website.

Is there a minimum or maximum period for a booking?

Sometimes Minimum stays are required. You will be informed when this happens. There is no maximum to the period you may book.

Is tax included?

In the UK, we will provide rates including VAT and give details of how the tax is calculated within your quote.

Are there any additional charges?

There will be no additional charges to your stay unless you damage any of the furnishings or otherwise damage the room. Telephone calls from within the room are not included in the price. Any other additional charges will always be provided within the quote from our Reservations team.

A credit card pre-authorisation or a Security Deposit may be required.

How do I pay?

You may pay by cash, debit or credit card, or BACS (bank transfer).

Can you invoice my company for my stay?

We are happy to invoice your company for your stay. We do, however, require detailed information so we will have to ask for a contact in your accounts department to complete a registration form in order to verify the setup of your company as a billing customer.

What credit cards do you accept?

We accept Maestro, Visa, Mastercard, Amex and JBC.

When do I pay?

Most of our guests pay in full at the time of booking or upon arrival depending upon the rate type.

Do you have luggage storage?

Luggage storage is available

What are your cancellation terms?

Flexible Rates – 3pm 48 hours prior to arrival.

PrePay Rates – No changes or refunds allowed.

Lodge F;exib;e Rates - 3pm Fourteen days prior to arrival.

Lodge PrePay Rates – No changes or refunds allowed.

What time is check-in?

If you arrive before your check-in time (3pm) and do not arrange this with us beforehand, unfortunately, you will have to wait until after the check-in time. However, if you know that you will arrive before the check-in time on your date of arrival, we encourage you to book the night before so that we may check you in at your earliest convenience. Do I have to pay for any damage caused by me or anyone who stays with me?

Yes. Anything that is missing or damaged will be charged back to your credit card. Any damages to the apartment interior or exterior that was not previously mentioned to us during your stay will also be charged.

Do you offer any laundry services?

Not onsite although there is a self-service laundry machine 5 mins walk open during normal working hours. There is a local collection service available with a wash and fold - £15 for up to 4kg. Contact reception for more details. 

Do you have gym/pool facilities?

Sorry, we do not have gym/pool facilities on-site. The Fermanagh Lakeland Forum is within walking distance and there are a number of great walks close by.

Where is the nearest bar/restaurant?

The WV bar and Terrace restaurant are right across the street from us and there are many more within a 10-minute walk.

How far is it into the centre of the town?

It would be about a 10-minute walk. There are many bars and restaurants as well as lots of shopping.

Is there an electric car charger?

Yes, we do have an electric car charger. Just ask reception to turn the charger on when needed.

Which pubs have live Irish music on?

Grannie Annie’s: Wednesday to Sunday from 8pm onwards.

Magee’s: Mondays from 10pm onwards

What time is breakfast from?

On weekdays, breakfast is from 7am until 10am. On weekends, breakfast is from 7.30am until 10.30am.

Can I get take-out food delivered to room?

Yes, you can. 

Reception should be able to help you with options.

Are dogs allowed in the Lodge?

No, pets are not allowed. Guide dogs, however, are allowed.

Are there fans in the room?

The Superior & Executive rooms have fans in the room. For standard rooms, you can request a fan from reception, and they will try and allocate a fan for you.

Is there an iron in the room?

Yes, every room has an ironing centre.

Superior & Executive Rooms have steam irons.

Where is the nearest ATM:

Tesco, across the street, has an ATM.

What is the Wi-Fi code?

There is no password. If you click on the Belmore Court Wi-Fi, a pop up will appear. Press the red go button and fill in your email address, first name and last name on the second page. Press the red button again to connect.
