The Belmore Court Motel is delighted to announce a major development of a new 30 bedroom extension on its existing site at Tempo Road, Enniskillen. This major £2.2m expansion is due to be completed in time for Spring 2009 and will effectively double the current accommodation stock available at the Tempo Road site.
The Belmore Court Motel has been in operation since 1990 and was opened by local Fermanagh hotelier Raymond McCartney who had seen the motel product in his extensive travels in North America and remains the only product of this type in the province. Mr McCartney, an experienced hotelier, who previously owned the Killyhevlin Hotel and Lough Erne Hotel, felt that new the concept of a motel would work well in Northern Ireland providing quality affordable accommodation. His motel vision became a reality with the purchase and remodelling of a row of 8 terraced houses at Wickham Drive, Enniskillen into the Belmore Court Motel.

Caroline McCartney cuts the 1st sod for the new development at the Belmore Court Motel. L-R: Paddy Cairns (Site Manager), Alastair Keys (Keys & Monaghan Architects), Caroline McCartney, John Tracey (Tracey Bros) and Terry McCartney.
The Belmore Court is currently managed by Raymond McCartney’s son, Terry, a third generation director of Blakely McCartney Ltd – The family hotel/motel business. Terry took over the day to day running of the motel on his return from England in 1995 having worked with sales companies in the UK.
The £2.2 million development, designed by Keys and Monaghan in Irvinestown, will add a number of new facets to the motel; conferencing facilities will be available for groups with the inclusion of a fully integrated communal meeting space with state of the art technology. The motel will have a welcome area with reception facility and lounge seating where guests can check-in leisurely whilst having access to local tourist information. Terry McCartney says “I recognise the changing marketplace and the advent of mixed use accommodation sites. With this in the mind the new premise will have a mix of double, triple, quad rooms and a number of apartments”. The new building will be completed to a high standard taking all facet accessibility into consideration. Tourist activities such as walking and cycling along with business tourism will be facilitated at the new site to help Fermanagh capitalise on its desire to be “the Outdoor Capital of Ireland”.
Terry McCartney realises that the market has evolved since the conception of the Belmore Court Motel, he says “to reflect increasing consumer expectations, the new extension will have a more luxurious feel. All the new superior rooms will be larger than the standard rooms, with more sumptuous furnishings and state of the art flat screen multi-channel televisions”. The family market has always been key for the motel sector and with this in mind Terry has included seven family rooms in the new extension, each unit will have two double beds and the option of an adjoining room. The addition of 4 conference/meeting rooms is market driven with a large number of local companies looking for meeting space away from the office.
“Tourism in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Fermanagh is on the increase and we feel that our new development is the perfect compliment to the accommodation mix that is provided within Enniskillen and the surrounding area.” Terry McCartney enthused. “The addition of these 30 rooms increases the range of markets we can attract. Enniskillen is well on the way to becoming one of the most desirable holiday and business destinations in Ireland. The local economy and its infrastructure can benefit greatly from these upward trends and it is important that the tourism sector is seen as a genuine economic force with a major contribution to make”
