Green Policy

ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY POLICY

The Belmore Court & Motel recognises that we have responsibilities to society to maintain safety and quality in all our operations. We recognise that our activities affect many people in the local community.

It is the policy for the Belmore Court & Motel to carry out all reasonable measures to seek to meet, exceed or develop all necessary requirements to improve our impact on society.

Green Tourism Business SchemeThe Belmore Court & Motel will comply with all environmental regulations, legislation and approved codes of practice relating to the processes and activities of the company.

The aims will be wherever possible:

Ø Assess the environmental effects of our activities in its operations.

Ø Reduce the amount of waste produced.

Ø Reduce the consumption of raw materials, water and fuels.

Ø Reduce and/or limit the production of pollutants to the environment

Ø Limit the noise in and around the site.

Ø Support the activities of local organisations and businesses, thus ensuring we continue to have a positive impact on the community both in day to day operations and in the future.

The Belmore Court & Motel will strive to enhance environmental awareness and understanding in all employees, suppliers, guests and the public. Where possible the Company will provide information and assistance to guests on environmental issues arising from our products and services.

The Belmore Court & Motel has developed a ‘Green Team’ and part of their responsibility is to maintain a ‘Green management file’ providing evidence and a ‘Green action plan’ to be communicated to guests and staff.

Activities Currently Completed / Undertaken

 

Recycling……..

Ø Cardboard collected for recycling.

Ø All printer cartridges recycled.

Ø Unused daily newspapers recycled.

Ø Where practical waste paper used for scrap and note taking.

Ø ‘Think Before You Print’ campaign in all areas of the business.

Ø All members of staff receiving education and training in environmental issues and in good working practices in order to create an energy efficient and environmentally aware working culture.

Energy Conservation……..

Ø Bedroom TV’s switched off (not on standby).

Ø Light bulb where possible replaced with minimum acceptable wattage & low energy light bulbs.

Ø Only essential lighting, for health and safety purposes are left on at night.

Ø All staff aware that all non essential lighting and heating is to be turned off when not in use.

Ø Heating is regulated throughout both buildings by timers, and in winter reduced to minimum comfort levels.

Ø Dishes in kitchen washed by hand therefore eliminating the need for a dishwasher.

Ø All P.Cs switched off when not in use.

Water Conservation……..

Ø Water consumption is monitored – read at least quarterly and results utilised.

Ø Green towel and linen replacement policy advertised (we will change linen every 7 days unless requested)

Ø Self closing taps installed in all public areas.

Ø PIR controls are utilised for flushing systems.

Ø Soaps and detergents are phosphate free.

 

Local Conservation……..

Ø Provide up to date local transport information.

Ø Provide information / brochures on local activities such as walking or cycling.

Ø Provide cycle storage facilities.

Ø Use of local suppliers wherever practical, including fresh local produce delivered daily to our kitchen.

Ø Endeavour to keep windows and doors shut at night to reduce noise impact to local residents.

Ø We actively promote local visitor attractions and facilities.

Social Responsibility……..

Ø Support regularly given to local charitable organisations including Horizon West Children’s Hospice.

Ø Mentoring provided to local students through the Career Academies scheme.

Hygiene, Health & Safety……..

Ø No smoking policy throughout the whole complex.

Ø Provision of staff relaxation area with shower facilities.

Other Initiatives………

Ø Soap dispensers have been installed in the public toilets.

Ø No more doyleys used.

Ongoing Initiatives……..

Ø Continue to remind staff of Green Tourism Issues and encourage input and new ideas.

Ø Regularly review lighting arrangements to see if improvements can be made.

Ø Endeavour to source suppliers who are willing to take back packaging where appropriate.

Ø Continue to remind staff to report water leaks or drips.

Ø Consider Carbon off-setting initiatives.

Ø Review use of Fair trade produce.

Ø Review recycling arrangements for tins and other metals.

Ø Review recycling arrangements for plastics, i.e. milk cartons.
