Heritage & Culture

The county derives its name from ‘Firmonach’, ‘the men of Monach’, a Celtic tribe that settled around the shores of the loughs in the early Christian era. For the historian in you, Fermanagh recognised as having the greatest number of surviving ruins of 17th century Castles in the whole of Ireland. Guests can also discover Fermanagh’s collection of National Trust treasure houses which include Florencecourt and Castlecoole.
